Oh my goodness, thank you for writing this! I homeschool my three young children but this year I also started working *super* part-time (2 hours/day) as the librarian at a local private school. And while I love my role as librarian and the students I see, my heart aches for them everyday as I see how they are constantly coerced into "good behavior" and often talked to in a sarcastic/frustrated manner. I don't think this is the novel case for just the school I happen to work for. I remember myself being a student on the receiving end of this system when I was in public school. I guess I'm just saddened to see it again through my adult perspective...in the meantime, I hope to be a welcoming and encouraging presence in the students educational lives.
Good for you for doing this! It is sad to witness what can happen in schools but you are clearly a force for good and we need that ♥️ this is part of how we make change!
