NEW: A Life Unschooled Book Group!
12 months of reading, chatting, and deep dives on how we parent, educate, unschool and exist under colonial capitalism.

Hello hello!
I would like to introduce a new perk for my lovely paid members.
I’m doing this because I’ve become suuuuuper reluctant to paywall my writing, while also acknowledging that many of you are here and supporting me and I want to give you something tangible for it.
So here we go. For the next 12 months we will read one thing a month. I will post about it along the way, and then we will meet over zoom to discuss! Perhaps I will invite a guest or two for some of our zoom dates as well.
I’ve selected 6 months worth of reading, and am open to suggestions going forward.
The focus will be non-hierarchical partnership parenting, life without school, children’s rights and generally divesting from colonial, patriarchal capitalism while also having to parent under it!
I am no expert but I’m hoping we will gain a ton of insights along the way.
I’m SO super excited about this because a) I’m always up for reading more books! and b) I’m so keen to chat with you all about them!
So here goes, we’re starting next month (June)!
Feel free to read along and join whenever you feel called to.
If you are struggling to get ahold of the book/piece of writing, PLEASE REACH OUT. I can hopefully help you get ahold of it. I do not want this to become stressful or expensive for anyone.
A few more things:
you do not need to have finished or even read the book to join the zoom call at the end of each month
if you’ve already read the book, join anyway!
zoom calls will be at the end of the month, I will try to alternate timezones/days to accommodate as many people as possible. we can also chat in a monthly thread if you can’t make the zoom calls.
calls will not be recorded
Do you have book suggestions? Pop them below in comments and we can add them to the list or even substitute them for one of the books if there is enough demand.
JUNE:
bell hooks’ writing has laid the foundation for so much thinking and practice on childhood, mothering, education, feminism, and power, among other things! So I thought we would start here. We’re going to read two of her essays which you can find for free:
Revolutionary Parenting and Feminist Parenting
I have been meaning to re-read her book All about love, so if you feel like diving deeper you could too! And I might take the opportunity to look into her other books.
Read as little or as much as you are able to/want to!
JULY:
**EDIT** I realised the book below isn’t the one I meant to pick! The one we will read is When the Naught Step Makes things Worse: The Art and Science of Low Demand Parenting by Naomi Fisher and Eliza Fricker.
Let’s read What can we do when school’s not working? by Naomi Fisher, Abigail Fisher and Eliza Fricker. This is a brand new book and I’m looking forward to digging in.
